We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our new Reservations Officer. Dancan Kiiza has been working with Great Lakes Safaris since 2011 but became a full time staff member in February 2012. Although he is one of the newest employees, he learned very quickly and now seems to have been part of the team for years already.

Dancan Kiiza"My dream practically started with my choice to do a Bachelors' degree in Tourism Management where I was elected President of Makerere University Tourism Association. This unveiled to me much that the Pearl of Africa had and there was no better way I would show case the beauty of our country than being practically involved in the industry.

When I was through with my degree, I first got involved in outbound Tourism before I transferred to join the Inbound sector when I got a training opportunity with Great Lakes Safaris & Uganda Lodges that had values and objectives that I treasured and later a placement to be directly involved in the Reservations department. To me it was an opportunity that I sought to practice my dream career in a reputable organization.

Today I may be handling number of clients but to every client, I give them an individual attention and I always do everything to make sure everything is in place from the time they log in their inquiry for both travelers with Great Lakes Safaris and clients staying at one of our pristine properties in the Uganda Lodges collection. I look forward to seeing you on schedule soon."

May was not only the month that Great Lakes Safaris moved to a new office building, but also set foot outside the country to attend Africa's largest travel trade show INDABA. The major exhibition was held in Durban, South Africa, from 12 till 15 May and attracted thousands of visitors and media from all over the world.

Despite of the global credit crunch, the interest for Uganda has not been affected by this. On the contrary, our Great Lakes Safaris team had a busy schedule full of meetings with travel agencies and wholesalers from the UK, Germany, India and Australia among others.

Coming all the way from Russia, Ilona Gorchilina travelled with UAR Tours to Uganda in April 2012. This is how she reflects her safari:

"Thank you very much for all your help and please pass my special thanks to the office team of Great Lakes Safaris. The trip was amazing and I'm officially in love with Uganda and gorillas. It is really a once in a lifetime experience and definitely worth doing it. Everything was organized excellent, accommodation was really decent, people are really nice in Uganda, scenery is stunning and the gorillas are just like us... or we are like them! Thanks again!"
