Day 1: Nairobi-Maji Moto
Transfer from your hotel to the bus stop. Together with your guide and cook, travel by public means locally known as “matatu” to Narok arriving at around 12:00 noon and take another matatu to drop you somewhere near Maji Moto and walk the rest of the distance to the camp. Arrive at Maji Moto camp for lunch. This is a 4-5 hour journey. Maji Moto is a remote Maasai village at the slopes of the Loita hills. ‘Maji Moto’ is a Swahili word that means ‘hot water’ and the place derives this name from the nearby hot springs. The Maasai live as they have done for centuries in a traditional and sophisticated culture. After lunch our Maasai hosts take us on a cultural tour of the Maasai homestead (“boma”). In the evening you can take a refreshing dip in the hot spring water which the local Maasai use as a cure for skin ailments. Overnight at the local community campsite.
Day 2: Maji Moto
Walking with Maasai in the Loita plains and Maji Moto hills. As we walk, we may for the first time see wild animals roaming in the plains- gazelles, impala, zebra and wildebeest. Return to camp in the afternoon.
Day 3: Maji Moto
Today we spend the day with Helen Nkuraiya and Salaton Ntutu, our Maasai hosts, learning about the community projects including the widows rescue centre and the education programme . You will have the opportunity to see the widows at work and possibly the rescued girls. Visit the school and, if they have a chance during break time or evening after school, play and interact with them. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 4: Masai Mara
Drive to Masai Mara for lunch and afternoon game drive. Camp overnight.
Days 5 & 6: Masai Mara
We spend two full days on game drives in the Mara. The Mara Game Reserve is largely plains and the open grasslands are habitat to rich and varied wildlife such as lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, giraffe etc. There are also several species of birds. The annual migration of millions of wildebeest and antelope from July to September is a spectacle never to be missed by any visitor to the Mara. Overnight at the Camp.
