Late 2013, Great Lakes Safaris, Brussels Airlines and Orbitz Worldwide partnered to offer an amazing free safari package to Uganda as part of the Orbitz Bags of Swag competition.
Orbitz Worldwide is a leading global online travel company based in the USA. It yearly offers a special free rewards loyalty program for its customers who love to travel. While Brussels Airlines sponsored free Business Class airline tickets, Great Lakes Safaris offered a luxury and adventurous Uganda safari.
The lucky winners were Tanya and Scott Vernon, citizens of Iowa State, USA. Early June they travelled to Uganda to visit the various attraction sites including Budongo Forest, Bulago Island, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls National Park. They searched for the “Big 6” while staying in some of the finest lodges of Uganda, including Budongo Eco Lodge, Paraa Safari Lodge and Pineapple Bay Resort.
On overall, the adventure and warm hospitality they received in the places they stayed surpassed their expectations. They therefore plan to return on a private trip in five year’s time to be able to see the highlights they missed during their first introduction with Uganda.
“For the first time in our lives, we saw all the animals but damn, we didn’t see the lion. It must have been shying away under some cool shade in the park from the scorching rays of the African sun.” says Tanya.
Scott on the other hand was so excited by the vast knowledge of most of the tour guides that accompanied them and can’t wait for his private visit back, a visit in which he plans on exploring the tourism attractions where one can find flamingos, gorillas and zebra’s among others.
