OFFICIAL OPENING OF GREAT LAKES SAFARIS OFFICE

On Thursday 19th July Great Lakes Safaris celebrated the opening and shift into its own new home in a very colorful way. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife & Heritage, who congratulated Great Lakes Safaris and gave his best wishes for the years to come. The celebrations were attended by many stakeholders from the local tourism industry including various suppliers to Uganda Lodges, and representatives of Uganda Tourism Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority. To inspire young entrepreneurs in de industry, a number of students from Makerere University attended the opening as well.

Apart from a delicious barbecue, a special cake and music played by Musaale Band, also the Udungu Family Cultural Dancers was invited to perform at the event. This group looks after underprivileged and orphaned children in their local community. Working in direct partnership, Great Lakes Safaris has managed to obtain a sponsorship for the education for some of the children through the help the Austrian tour operator Raiffaisen.

We would like to thank everyone who added color to the event and for the continuous support throughout the years. Please remember that our new physical location is:

Mutungo Hill, Plot 1001 block 243,

KYABIRWA SCHOOL & VOLUNTEER PROJECT

In February 2008 a very special guest from the UK traveled with Great Lakes Safaris. Because of her passion for Uganda and commitment to help people in need, she started a project in Jinja. She now helps to support Kyabirwa Primary School, that is situated near the Bujagali Falls and accommodates over 1000 children between 6-18 years old. But she cannot do it without you!

All of us at the Kyabirwa Primary School and Community Volunteer Project welcome volunteers to come to our school to become partners in developing its infrastructure, building up resources, improving teaching and learning whilst working to provide holistic care & education for our children and Community.

Our Mission is to improve the lives and opportunities of all children attending the school, enhance the life of the Community and through them increase the prosperity and wellbeing of future generations. Volunteers can choose to work in school or with the community - or both!

Kyabirwa Primary School and Community Volunteer Project

We welcome people from all over the world. We can use any skill you have and you will return to your homelands at the end of your time with us, knowing that you have helped to improve the lives and futures of poor rural families and future generations. Have a look at our comprehensive website and then come to volunteer or pass the info to someone else who is thinking about it! We guarantee a life changing experience!

Help us to improve lives now and for the future!

For more details about the voluntary project or how you can support Kyabirwa Primary School too, please contact Great Lakes Safaris or complete this contact form.

If you are interested in tracking the gorillas, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to check for you the current availability. Permits can be booked in combination with a tour to other national parks, completely adapted to your wishes. But book early as competition is high!

SAFARI TESTIMONIAL

In June 2012, Marcia Maloney and her husband took on a journey to Uganda, booked through the efficient assistance of our USA office. This is how they look back at their safari:

"We are back from Uganda and over our "Jet lag", and we just wanted you to know that we had a wonderful experience there. Our driver, Bernard, was terrific. He took very good care of us. Not only did he help us physically, but he was very knowledgeable about the animals and birds. He made sure that we saw everything we wanted to see.

Our accommodations were all excellent as well. We enjoyed the cabins and/or deluxe tents that were situated away from others so that we could enjoy the wilderness by ourselves. We especially liked the Ishasha Wilderness Camp. The food was very good throughout as well, but our favorite was the Primate Lodge in Kibale. The chef there could have cooked for a 5-Star hotel. Not only did it taste heavenly, but the presentation was beautiful too.

We have hundreds of pictures and wonderful memories of Uganda. Thanks again!"
