Uganda Youth Entrepreneur Challenge

Great Lakes Safaris Managing Director Amos Wekesa recently had the honour to be part of the panel of judges at the Grand Finale of the Youth Entrepreneur Challenge 2013.

The Youth Entrepreneur Challenge is an initiative of Inspire Africa in partnership with the Ministry of Finance in Uganda. The competition aims to mindset change in youth towards entrepreneurship through training, inspiring and motivating. This will help to create more jobs and prosperity in the long run.

Judges of Uganda Youth Entrepreneur Challenge 2013

The Grand Finale was held on Friday 22nd April at the Serena Kampala Hotel, where 8 finalists from all over the country competed for the Grand Prize of 20 million Uganda shilling. In the end, Andrew Mupuya was selected unanimously by Amos Wekesa and two other judges as the first prize winner. The 20-year old studend is the owner of a paperbag manufacturing company and has been running the country’s only paperbag business for five years. The idea of making paper bags in a bid for a greener world met the judges credentials of a practical innovation, great future prospects and creating positive impact to the community.
