With his passport still held up by Migration for the application of a visum for the UK, it took extremely a lot of effort and help from other people. But Amos Wekesa managed to find a way to make it for the Asia Pacific Eco Tourism Conference in Malaysia.
The Asia Pacific Ecotourism Conference (APeco) is a prominent Ecotourism event in the Asia Pacific where ecotourism academicians and experts from the industry come to network and change views on conservation, forests, marine life and community based projects. This year the conference was held from 16th till 18th October in Sabah, Malaysia.
More than 300 participants from the tourism industry from all over the world attended the APeco 2014 Conference. Including one person from Uganda: CEO Amos Wekesa. Amos was personally invited by Professor Ross K. Dowling as one of the six Keynote Speakers during the event, to talk about the theme “Adding Value Through Ecotourism Development”. He was joined by experts from other countries but all with the same passion: to help the community to make a better future for the generation leaders.
Being the only speaker from Africa, Amos Wekesa had the opportunity to talk about Uganda as a tourism destination. His presentation wasn’t limited to words only, he also showed the public pictures and videos, revealing the amazing beauty of the country. With his presence he did not only take away many prejudices but also showed the world that Uganda has actually a lot in common with Malaysia and is truely the Pearl of Africa!
